Formulated with 15% Ascorbic Acid and synergistic antioxidants like Ferulic Acid and Glutathione-related Amino Acids. Soothing humectants like Betaine, Glycerin, and Sodium Lactate leave the skin with a soft and radiant reflection.
Instantly, the skin feels comforted and like velvet to the touch.
Over time, the formula brightens and unifies skin tone, supporting the skin in its protection against the environment, and smoothes its appearance.
Our dispenser is specially designed to deliver single drops. After dispensing, a valve seals and protects the remainder of the formula. The dispensing tip can be rinsed and cleaned with water and a cleanser if desired.
A tube beam is complimentary with each order. As the tube flattens and empties with use, the tube beam can be slid over the back to aid with dispensing.
We currently recommend finishing your serum within 8 months of opening. The formula is stabilized for up to a year in its dispenser when stored at 20°C in a dry and dark environment. We recommend storing your serum in a cool and dry place that is out of direct sunlight. The serum can be stored in a refrigerator if desired or long-term storage is needed.
26 mL, 0.9 Fl. Oz. U.S.
Made in Canada.
More information
Vitamin C, also known as Ascorbic Acid, is a powerful antioxidant for the skin. Ascorbic Acid is the true form of Vitamin C. Its derivatives haven't been proven as effective.
Ascorbic Acid is an important vitamin that's critical in the maintenance of the skin. It helps counteract free radical damage from pollution, and can help with smoothing the appearance of the skin.
While our skin does get some Ascorbic Acid via the blood, topical delivery has been shown in human clinical studies to actively increase levels of the vitamin in the skin and produce noticeable benefits.
At peak freshness, solutions of Ascorbic Acid are clear and colourless. When exposed to air and light, Ascorbic Acid begins to break down into orange and brown compounds. Formulating in a way that protects Ascorbic Acid and keeps it active is difficult: that's why the Future Focus Vitamin C Serum is so special to us.
The effects of Ascorbic Acid's breakdown compounds on the skin are not well understood. They are likely to have less benefit for the skin and diminished antioxidant effect.
Vitamin C stability
The formula maintained its Vitamin C (measured as L-Ascorbic Acid) content with minimal degradation (± 4%, relative percentage) over a period of 30 days at 45° Celsius.
How the Vitamin C content was measured
L-Ascorbic Acid was measured by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a modified AOAC 2012.21 standard.
Samples were extracted with a metaphosphoric acid buffer and diluted for injection into the HPLC system. The standard addition of the reducing agent tris(2-carboxyethyl)phosphine (TCEP) was omitted. Addition of TCEP before Vitamin C measurement converts the breakdown product dehydroascorbic acid back into ascorbic acid, which would increase the amount of L-Ascorbic Acid measured.
What is accelerated testing?
Accelerated testing stores the formula at a higher temperature for a shorter period of time and is meant to approximate or estimate the stability of the same formula when held at room temperature for longer periods of time.
30 days at 45° Celsius is assumed to estimate the stability at room temperature (25 degrees Celsius) for 365 days or 1 year.
Accelerated stability testing is only an estimation or approximation. Higher temperatures can activate different chemical reactions, which may not occur at room temperature.
We are conducting real-time stability testing at room temperature.
How is the formula made?
We formulate in small batches with energy saving and resource conscious techniques.
Is the formula preserved against microbial growth?
The formula is self-preserving as outlined in ISO 29621:2017 'Guidelines for the risk assessment and identification of microbiologically low-risk products' and has passed the requirements for Criteria A of the ISO 11930:2019 'Evaluation of the antimicrobial protection of a cosmetic product' standard.
We recommend using our formula in the mornings, before your choice of moisturizers and sunscreens.
Apply a few drops to the fingers or palms and smooth over the face and neck. Avoid the eyes, lips, and other sensitive areas.
Discontinue use if signs of irritation (redness, warmth, discomfort) occur.
Long-term storage
If you don't plan to use your tube right away, it's best to store it in the refrigerator.
Tube squeezer
A tube beam is complimentary with each order. The beam can be placed over the back of our dispenser to aid with squeezing.
It is best placed on the tube when it is over half empty to avoid cracking The Beam.
Water, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Ascorbic Acid, Betaine, Glycerin, Acetyl Cysteine, Sodium Lactate, Xanthan Gum, Ferulic Acid, Dimethyl Sulfone, Magnesium Chloride, Trehalose.
We are always working to improve our formulas, so the ingredients may change over time. Ingredient changes will be noted.
The dispenser, cap, and label can be recycled as HDPE type 2 plastic.
'The Beam' tube squeezer can be recycled as ABS type 7 plastic. We suggest reusing 'The Beam' with other products.
Please check your local waste and recycling guidelines for best practices.
The dispenser and cap plastics are derived from plant sugar alcohol. While the source is renewable, the dispenser and cap are plastic and are not biodegradable.
Most beauty packaging can be recycled through Terracycle and Pact Collective.
There is yellow or orange formula in the cap and nozzle
It is normal for the formula to collect in the cap over time. The formula that collects in the cap will oxidize, dry, and turn orange over time.
Both the cap and nozzle of the tube can be rinsed or soaked with water to remove a build-up of formula.
There is a lot of air in the tube
The air seal built into the nozzle can sometimes fail if the tube is overly manipulated while the cap is open. To restore function of the seal, hold the tube upside-down (with the tip facing upwards), and squeeze out any air that has come into the tube.
I can't remove my 'The Beam' tube squeezer from the tube
Removing the tube squeezer can be difficult. We recommend finishing the formula and then cutting the tube above the tube squeezer to help make removal easier.
My label is bubbling or peeling
We apologize for the cosmetic appearance; a removable label increases the chances of recycling and proper processing of our tube. Rest assured a bubbling or peeling label has no impact on the formula.
